2307 Maxine Ln Rockford, IL 61102 815-543-9849 Education:
B.S.E.E.T - Bachelor of Science Degree in
Electrical Engineering Technology; with a concentration in Physics and
Computer Science. - Southwest State (Marshall, MN) 81-85; College courses through Eastern Michigan State and
Oakland University for D & PFMEA, 8D, Problem solving, SPC and Advanced
Quality Control and Measurement techniques. Software Training for ANSYS, Lab View and COMSOL
FEA Abilities:
Power Converter
& Power Supply Systems Magnetic Component Design Electronic
Circuit DesignProject Management Manufacturing
EngineeringQuality Control Measurements & Practices Experience:
As a Magnetic Design Engineer, for 30 plus years, I
have designed a large number and variety of power systems and transformers
& inductors. This process has included: ·
Magnetics
Design: building prototypes, writing assembly procedures, preparing drawings
and testing finish designs and production samples. Tools: Ansys,
Ansoft, Intusoft, Infolytica and Maxwell’s equations. ·
Real
working knowledge of metal machining and plastic injection modeling both
in-house and working on-site with sub-tier suppliers. ·
Detailed
knowledge of chemical damage/corrosion of polymers and metals (leaching, tin
whiskers & Dendritic growth) As an analog circuit designer, my work has been
with discrete components. I have experience in Magnetic and Optical sensors,
as well as Analog & D/A converters. I also have more than a passing
knowledge of IC (Wafer) Fab., this includes working with IC makers on new
ASIC's. Designed Linear and Switching Power Supplies used
in a wide variety of applications for Aircraft, Military, Commercial, and
Industrial. Typically the designs were low power DC/DC converts.
However, I have over two years of experience in the design and development of
High Energy Capacitive Discharge circuits (Exciters [Ignition systems for Jet
Aircraft]) with stored energy levels over 100 Joules. Have worked directly with manufacturing &
quality control to develop procedures, start new projects and solve
problems. My current position as a Manufacturing Engineer for new
products allows me to design new processes, evaluate new equipment and
develop manufacturing capabilities. Coordinated projects, ordering or approving orders
for materials, performing document & drawing generation and control,
scheduling personnel & materials, and provide technical support and
guidance. Highlights: · Design and development of
Cam & Crank Sensor Test Stand for Hall Effect sensors and VR
sensors. This was used by and for profiling GM< Ford & Chrysler
sensors. LASER measurements (500 kHz dual receiver LASER with accuracy
to 2 microns) and Optical sensors, for proximity, growth & Jitter. · Worked on and designed
exciters (CDI) for Jet engines. As well as designed an Inductor and
Transformer used by NASA. I had some experience with failure analysis
(NASA) of a transformer that had been in space (and back) 3 or 4 times before
it failed. · High-side switch circuit
design for the Canadian Army 24V to 48V at 125 Amps. This required a
voltage multiplier to reduce switch loses and make the use of a low Rds ON MOSFET as the switch. · Batteries: I’ve
experimented with photovoltaic cells and kept up with the technology but more
specifically I currently use and/or to specify all types of batteries for
test equipment, Lab top computers, cell phones and toys which includes
Ni-Cad, Ni-H2, Li-Ion. · First Dual negative voltage
Ignition coil for the 5.7L Hemi Engine. · AC/DC: Simple laminated
transformer for step down and regulation controller through feedback into an
OP-AMP, feedback voltage direct through · DC/DC: 5W to 50W with
switching frequencies 1kHz (self-oscillating Flyback) to 125 kHz PWM. With
transformer and Inductor designs for use in PWM with switching frequencies up
to 1 GHz. Power budget analysis experience has been related to power
consumption and efficiencies. · Worked with (Maxim) IC
manufacture to integrate 1 transformer and 2 Buck/Boost Inductor designs i
into IC's, as well as a 12Vdc to 185Vac for back-light panel (EL/LCD)
(purpose to sell a transformer design. · CDI's 1 Joule to 100 Joule
(development tool for · Design & developed
exciter test machine (Unit) sold as a commercial test unit. Pressure
leak testing, Voltage stress and full electrical functional testing. · PWM's for life testing
Ignition coils, power converter in an IGBT w/ diagnostics, 12Vdc to
250Vdc (Flyback), buck boost design to convert alternator voltage to 250 Vdc
and CD used in ION sense circuit. Accomplishments:
Provided one employer with the ability to
manufacture transformers in-house, by purchasing the equipment, supplying the
training and technical support. Built Test Fixtures, Test Equipment and Designed
Test Procedures to support production. One piece of Test Equipment
became a new product with a unit-selling price of $60k. With knowledge acquired in the area of Gas
Discharge Theory, I was instrumental in the reduction of scraped Spark Gaps,
resulting a cost saving of $20k per month. Recent Patent on Switch mode control using Magnetic
Field sensing. Designed & Developed Magnetic components for a
Semiconductor Manufacturer, which was, integrated into IC’s, this resulted in
a new customer a gross sales of over $1M a year. Successfully assisted manufacturing facilities, in
Mexico, St Kitts, Puerto Rico, Central America (Costa Rico & Honduras),
India and Asia (Maylasisa & China), in problem solving new product launch
and manufacturing issues, through effective communication and team building. Worked with core supplier to develop a method of
control to Stress aneal Nanocrystalline cores at a fourth of the
typical cost and at high of the tolerance shift. Developed a thermally conductive potting material,
which saved more than 35 lbs per 787-8 airplane and improved the thermal
performance of the magnetics. Co-developed, with Epoxy Dispensing Company,
automated epoxy vacuum dispensing equipment and established it in
production. Allowing the plant site to reduce touch time, improve
repeatability and provide a void free potting. This is now a standard product
for that manufacture. Worked with a Winding machine manufacture to
develop a 3 phase transformer winding machine. Installed, trained and
validated the equipment into Puerto Rico production line. Developed the fusion crimping process that used to
bound (fuse) mechanically strippable magnet wire into a lug without
pre-stripping the insulation, which save time and reduces F.O.D./. Representative Employment:
